2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas: Video Of Alternative-Fuel Car
OK, so gas prices are hovering around $4 a gallon, and dispensing with gasoline altogether is getting more and more attractive.
But for whatever reasons, plug-in cars aren’t for you. Maybe it’s the limited range of battery electric vehicles, maybe it’s the $41,000 cost before incentives of the 2011 Chevy Volt.
Well, depending on where you live, there is another option: fueling your car on natural gas.
For more than a decade, Honda has been the only carmaker that has sold a compact passenger car powered by natural gas.
For 2012, its all-new Civic line includes a model called the Civic Natural Gas, a new name for the model sold from 1998 through 2011 as the Civic GX.

Altogether, five different models of the new ninth-generation Civic launched last month at the 2011 New York Auto Show. Four of them (Civic, Civic Si, Civic Hybrid, and Civic HF) are already available at dealers.
The fifth, however, the Civic Natural Gas, won’t be available at dealers until autumn of this year. That’s to allow production of the other, higher-volume models to get up to full speed, says Honda.
The video below is our quick walk-around of the 2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas, which looks just like a standard Civic aside from some badges–and its vastly reduced trunk space.
As we found out in our drive review of a 2010 Honda Civic GX, the natural-gas powered Civic drives just like the gasoline model as well. The only other drawback beside the loss of trunk space is its reduced range, which is limited to roughly 180 miles.
